Between going to work, seeing friends, running errands, and just being adults in general, it’s easy to forget to make time for ourselves.
When our lives get busy, the first thing we usually sacrifice is our personal wellbeing. Not making time for ourselves is detrimental to both our physical health and our mental sanity.
Fortunately, with these simple tips, you can incorporate small acts of self-care into your daily routine to keep your body and brain functioning as best they can:
1. Schedule time for yourself. Treat your “you” time just as you would any other appointment: pencil it in your planner, write it in your Google calendar, ask someone to remind you, whatever it takes.
2. Write positive affirmations. Find some uplifting quotes or sayings that inspire you and post them around your house, at your office or in your car. They’ll serve as a constant source of positive energy and are always a great pick-me-up.
3. Stretch it out. Yoga or just any gentle movement gets your blood flowing and relaxes your body. Even a quick 5-10 minutes can give you a boost of energy or release some of the tension you carry from daily activities, like sitting at your desk or driving to work.
4. Reach out to a friend. There’s nothing like a phone chat or coffee date with a good friend to make you feel alive and more connected. It’s a nice reminder to be grateful for the people in our lives who love and care about us.
