Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, but when it comes to Beauty Blogger’s on YouTube, or “guru’s” as they’re sometimes referred to, there seems to be a severe lack of diversity – what gives? It seems that to find someone who sticks out among the crowd of foundation reviews and brow tutorials is to find a needle in a haystack. Well, luckily for you, we’ve found four needles.
Check out the four beauty vloggers we can’t get enough of.
1. Jackie Aina
First on our list is the amazingly hilarious and warm hearted Jackie Aina! When it comes to beauty bloggers, it’s well known that the ethnic diversity among them is lacking. Jackie recognized this problem early on in her YouTube days and decided to take matters into her own hand. She quickly became a powerful voice on YouTube for darker-skinned girls looking for makeup reviews and beauty advice for problems akin to their skin types and colors. She began creating videos covering everything from foundation matching techniques for darker skins, something that’s needed as there is a serious problem in the makeup industry with ranges in color being seriously limited, to a whole series during black history month celebrating beauty through the decades. A tried and true makeup lover at the core, she also knows that you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to get that fab look you’re vying for. As a result, many of her videos feature drugstore and affordable items. Want to know a fun fact? Because she’s passionate about makeup and accessibility, she collaborated with E.L.F. to bring her subscribers beautiful makeup at an affordable price! Another fun fact about Jackie? She’s an Army Veteran! Proving that a love of beauty truly can and does cross all boundaries, she’s even made awesome videos for her fellow soldiers looking for some style advice. 2. Lisa Eldridge
Many beauty bloggers on YouTube are actually self-made makeup artists. While the entrepreneurial spirit behind many of these channels is great, sometimes you just want a seasoned professional’s advice and on YouTube, there’s no one better than makeup artist to the stars, Lisa Eldridge. Lisa has been a makeup artist for over 20 years, working in editorial for magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar as well as brands like Shiseido and most recently, Lancome where she is currently the Global Creative Director. As accomplished as she is, when it comes down to it, Lisa is a true makeup lover. In 2015, she released a book called, “Face Paint: The Story of Makeup,” chronicling the history of makeup from makeup in the age of Cleopatra to current trends like the now infamous (and envious) Cara Delevingne brow look. A true master of her craft, on her YouTube channel, Lisa does it all – from dramatic editorial looks all the way to effortlessly natural “I woke up like this” looks. One of her most popular videos is her amazing acne coverage video! In it, she teaches her viewers her tricks on how to achieve a flawless canvas while still having the skin look like, well, skin. Check it out below and fall in love with the magic that is Lisa Eldridge!
3. Sazan Hendrix
Another beauty blogger we can’t get enough of is Sazan Hendrix! The Texas-native’s channel is super fun and has a little bit of everything – makeup tutorials, DIYs, hilarious videos with her husband Stevie, travel vlogs, recipes, style lookbooks and advice videos on how to become a successful blogger yourself. Through all the hard work she puts into her YouTube channel and corresponding blog, it’s clear Sazan takes immense pride in her work and defines what it means to be a #girlboss. Two other things she’s shows immense pride in? Her relationship with God and her Kurdish roots! In a recent “get ready with me” video back in March, Sazan shared a video of a gorgeous look ready for a party in honor of the Kurdish new year or “Newroz.” In the video, she talks about some traditions and reminiscences of days of Newroz past. It’s a beautiful video complete with a beautiful look perfect for any party occasion as well as an instance of a proud woman taking the time to share her culture with her beloved followers – what more could you ask for? 4. Rachel Whitehurst
Beauty is a multi-faceted thing and it doesn’t just include makeup. Anyone can slather on foundation, pop on a coat of mascara and call it a day, but it’s the people that care about all the aspects of beauty that people really want to hear from. This is where our love for Rachel Whitehurst comes in! Rachel is a Seattle based beauty blogger and podcaster whose channel covers everything from makeup tutorials and skin care routines to videos discussing the importance of mental and physical health (Her “Chrachel Cooks” series with boyfriend Chris Hubbard are some of the funniest videos on her channel, especially if you get all of the amazing Food Network references.) Hilarious and brutally honest (in the best way), her videos are both informative and inspirational. One of her best videos, and the one that opens her channel, is one titled “WHEN YOU ACCIDENTALLY START LOVING YOUR BODY.” In the video, she goes on to discuss her struggle with self love and body image and the importance of ridding yourself of negative influences in favor of a healthy lifestyle and self acceptance, inspiring others to follow suit along the way. Sure, her makeup tutorials rock, but it’s these kinds of videos that make her the epitome of beauty and what should constitute a beauty blogger – someone intent on finding their ultimate beauty within as well as outwardly.
