The year may be starting to come to a close, but that doesn’t mean 2016 is done churning out the hits just yet. This time last year, we were anxiously awaiting new records from Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and most notably, the return of #goddess Adele who graced us with the magic that was 25.
While the Fall of 2015 was definitely a standout year for new music, Fall 2016 is far from disappointing. And October in particular is set to be a stellar month for new music. From the long awaited return of JoJo to the latest from Lady Gaga, October is a busy month for album releases in 2016.
Here are 6 albums we can’t wait to get our hands on in this month.
1. Tove Lo – Lady Wood
To say Swedish-songstress Tove Lo’s been on a roll is a bit of an understatement. Since her debut single “Habits (Stay High)” rocketed to the top of the carts in 2014, she has released her debut album, Queen of the Clouds, headlined her own tour and collaborated with big names, like Ellie Goulding, Coldplay and, most recently, Nick Jonas on their smash hit “Close.” For her sophomore album, the cheekily titled Lady Wood, Tove Lo isn’t holding back on the hits. Her latest single, “Cool Girl” is already climbing up the charts and by the sound of her excitement, the album is sure to be another smash. Lady Wood is set to be released on October 28th.
2. Empire of the Sun – Two Vines
It’s been three years since Empire of the Sun released their sophomore album, Ice on the Dune. Now, the electronic-synthpop duo is back and they’re bringing some interesting friends along for the ride. For the new album, they packed their bags, headed to Hawaii and recruited an impressive list of legendary artists as collaborators. Working alongside the likes of Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, Prince and the Revolution’s Wendy Melvoin and former members of David Bowie’s Blackstar band, Henry Hay and Tim Lefebvre, it’s clear to see the heavy influence music of the seventies will have on this new album. Two Vines is set to be released on October 28th.
3. Kaiser Chiefs – Stay Together
Brit-pop fans rejoice, Kaiser Chiefs is releasing a new album! Heralded by their dancy lead single, “Parachute,” it’s evident that sonically, the band is expanding their horizons with this record. Where their previous albums had a more decisively Rock sound, Stay Together is exploring the new-wave sound they began experimenting with on their previous album, Education, Education, Education & War. Frontman Ricky Wilson confirmed this by saying, “we tried out new ideas and sounds and ended up with a new and fresh sounding Kaiser Chiefs album. Like no Kaiser Chiefs record you have heard before.” The album is set to be released on October 7th.
4. Norah Jones – Day Breaks
With her new album Day Breaks, nine-time Grammy award winner Norah Jones is bringing back the sound that made us all fall in love with her. Harkening back to her Come Away With Me days, the new album will be entirely piano-driven, much like her highly acclaimed debut. The 12-track album features nine new songs penned by Jones, accompanied by covers by the likes of greats such as Horace Silver, Duke Ellington and Neil Young. Day Breaks is set to be released on October 7th.
5. Jojo – Mad Love
She’s (finally) back! It’s been 10 years since Jojo topped the charts with songs like “Too Little Too Late” and “How to Touch a Girl,” so to say this is a highly anticipated release is a vast understatement. And it’s clear that Jojo is just as excited as we are to get back out there. Due to a contentious battle with her previous record label, this decade-long hiatus was definitely not a planned one. After a string of lawsuits and a multi-year battle to reclaim her right to sign and record with another label, Jojo won and is now a member of the Atlantic Records roster. In August 2015, she released her EP III, reminding everyone just how incredible she is when she get’s behind a mic. Jojo’s back to making great music and we couldn’t be happier. Mad Love is set to be released on October 14th,
6. Lady Gaga – Joanne
After three long years, Lady Gaga is ready to get back in the music game. Since she released Artpop in 2013, the singer’s ended her engagement with longtime love Taylor Kinney, been nominated for an Oscar for her song about sexual assault (something she’s also become more vocal about, often citing her own experience with it) and even won a Golden Globe for her work on American Horror Story. Judging from her first single and the accompanying video, “Perfect Illusion,” Lady Gaga’s also adopted a new sound and a new look. This could be ushering in a whole new era for Little Monsters. Joanne, named for Gaga’s late aunt, is available on Oct. 21.
