There’s been a lot of discussion over the past few years about what message Barbie is sending to young girls. Yes, she is a great career role model (the company says she has more than 180 jobs) but, anatomically, her proportions are unattainable
To answer the calls for more body diversity, the company’s released its new Fashionistas® collection to celebrate three new body types—tall, curvy and petite. They are included more skin tones, hair styles and outfits.
There’s definitely no way for Barbie to make a doll that looks like every girl, but this opens the door for more girls to feel represented. Some girls get tall a little earlier than others, develop their curves sooner than classmates or are picked on for being small. Hopefully, this will help them be a more confident.
