Mindy Kaling is the gal we wish was our personal BFF. She’s funny, super sassy and just loves to make people smile by telling the truth her way—with humor and a slice of reality. What makes us really love Mindy are her opinions on body image and how to be happy with your body type, no matter the size, shape, color, or amount of curves you may have.
We could all use a cheerleader for body confidence sometimes. The next time you’re struggling to be body positive, keep one of these Mindy confidence lessons in mind.
1. Eat what you want because life is way too short.
We’ve all seen the diet books, tips, Insta pages, and ads that say you need to eat celery to lose weight, eat only 1,000 calories in eight hours and only have a bowl of almonds for breakfast. Well, Mindy says eat what you want. Mindy does eat healthy and exercise, but she also loves her junk food. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty about your food choices.
2. Work out to stay healthy, not to achieve a certain look.
Some of our bodies—no matter how much we run, hike, bike, whatever—will always look more curvy than a lot of images we see in the media. We can workout for days at a time and still look a little chubby. On the flip side, some of us will never have curves like Mindy, not matter how much we’d like to. Well, Mindy Kaling has totally been there and totally done that when it comes to wishing her body was made differently. And you know what? The sun still came out the next day. We should workout to maintain our healthy lifestyles, not to look a certain way.
3. Own your body, never insult it.
Never let anyone, even yourself, tell you you are fat, overweight, too skinny or anything else they can think of to make you feel like you’re not good enough. Own your body and learn to love it. No one is allowed to make you feel bad for having the body you do. Mindy loves and owns her body. No ifs, ands, or butts (couldn’t help ourselves) about it.
4. Your confidence comes within your body, so let it all out!
You can’t start to love others and life around you if you can’t love yourself. Take your daily dose of Mindy Kaling, tell yourself you have a great body. And if you need to repeat the following mantra, please do so: “I am a hot, smart woman with an ass that doesn’t quit.” Amen, sister!
5. Always remember that you are BEAUTIFUL!
Always remind yourself how beautiful you are. You may not have total body confidence yet, but you ain’t no ugly fool. You are beautiful, inside and out. Remember this and your confidence will make you even more of a stunner.
