Since I started listening to my “lit” rap playlist at the gym, I’ve been putting in double work. Seriously, there’s just something empowering about listening to rap music when you workout.
Maybe it’s the hardcore beats or maybe it’s the lyrics that tell you to put in work in order to see results and show the haters your gains. All I know is I’ve been much more efficient at the gym, and I have rap music to thank for getting me hyped during my workouts.
I worked harder
Changing up my tunes helped me start putting in double time at the gym. Since day one, I have grown dependent of listening to music while working out, so much so that when I forget my headphones at home, it almost feels like I can’t get anything done. There’s just something about the lyrics in rap music that inspires me to work harder. “Champions” by Kanye West, for example, has me feeling like I can add more weights to my squat bar.
I became more efficient
My “lit” playlist consists of 22 songs that runs about an hour and a half long. I workout until the end of it. This has helped me become much more efficient in my workouts, as I divide my rap music according to what I am doing at the gym. I’ll listen to some fast-paced Busta Rhymes while I’m running on the treadmill and then will pump some iron while listening to some Jay-Z.
I felt unstoppable
As soon as I turn on the tunes, I don’t feel discouraged after a particularly rough “leg day.” The music makes me feel unstoppable. Picking songs that motivate me have made me feel more empowered than ever.
