Sports are not just a man’s hobby. Now that college football is in full swing and the professional season is underway, Feather Girls should really learn how to follow the game! It’s fun to be well informed and understand what’s happening—not to mention, tailgates, games and sports bars are full of cuties. But with so many rules to follow and teams to choose from, jumping on the football bandwagon can be quite intimidating. Lucky for you, we’re here to help.
What’s So Great About Football Anyway?
This is quite possibly the most important question of them all—what’s all the hullaballoo surrounding football?
Tradition: For starters, it’s a traditional American sport that finds a way to creep into a ton of conversations, whether you like it or not! With hot and dirty rivalries and extraordinary passion from players, coaches and the most dedicated fans in the sports world, there’s no avoiding getting caught up in the football frenzy that has grasped the hearts and souls of Americans across the nation.
The Pre-Game: Getting pumped up for the big game is all part of the excitement! Who doesn’t love a guilt-free excuse to drink during the day and chow down on wings? Tailgating can be just as fun—sometimes more!—than the game itself. So whether you’re heading out to a pre-game party at the frat house, firing up the grill outside the stadium or having a small get together at your apartment to watch your team kick some butt, there are plenty of gameday perks that come with football fandom!
Temptations: Just think about how many cute guys (ahem—all of them) you can strike up a conversation with if you’re a little more knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. Believe us, nothing is more attractive to a sports fan than a girl who knows a thing or two about football, aka “God’s Gift to Man” (after women, of course).
Rock that Team Spirit
This could possibly be the most enticing part of football for some Feather Girls. What better way to express pride for your favorite team than to parade around in some cute and comfy team apparel? Be sure to check out Victoria’s Secret Collegiatte and NFL collections for some trendy, fabulous, and incredibly sexy gear to show off your team pride on game day or ANY day of the week!
From First Downs to Field Goals and Touchdowns
If you expect to enjoy yourself for those 3 hours, it’s critical to know the following fundamentals of the game:
Object: To score the most points for your team by moving the ball down the field and into the end zone. There are 4 fifteen-minute quarters to play.
First Down: In order to keep moving the ball down the field, the team on offense must gain a first down by advancing ten yards. The first down begins a series of four downs, or chances, the team has to gain ten yards or more.
Touchdown: When the offense successfully lands the ball in the other team’s end zone, they receive a touchdown worth six points. If the kick that immediately follows lands through the goalposts, they earn an extra point.
Field Goal: When the offense can’t advance the ball far enough to score a touchdown, they can attempt to kick the ball in between the goalposts for a three-point gain.
Now that you’re all ready for football Sunday, go on out there and root for the home team!
