The Spice Girls reunion is finally happening, but not in the way you (really, really) want.
On the 20th anniversary of their debut hit single “Wannabe,” three-fifths of the 90s girl group—Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell and Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton—released a video hinting at a possible reunion. The other spice squad members, Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, and Mel C, aka Sporty Spice, were not featured and have reportedly kept mum on any talk of a reunion show.
Thankfully, the trio finally confirmed these reunion rumors through Instagram and YouTube, while also sporting a brand new name. GEM, which stands for Geri, Emma and Mel B, are expected to put on a reunion concert at Hyde Park next year just in time for the 21st anniversary of “Wannabe,” the group’s breakout single.
That means we have until July of next year to make sure Posh and Sporty Spice are present at this girl-power reunion.
In a video posted by GEM on YouTube, Halliwell says, “You’ve stood by us for 20 years, and we want to say a big ‘thank you.’”
