It’s that time of year again, Feather Girls! The Victoria’s Secret Fashion show airs Tuesday night, which means it’s time to bring back our no-negativity pact.
We started the pact after the 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. While live tweeting the show, I noticed so many negative comments from our readers who took a hit to their self-esteem every time one of the models walked down the runway and I knew we had to change the narrative.
When I’m not wrapped up in my job as the editor-in-chief, I’m a motivational speaker and self-esteem writer. I know what it’s like to feel sad or down when you can’t reach a level of “perfection” that the world tells you is possible. (If you look closely, all the models have different bodies, too. You can’t look like anyone but yourself, no matter how much time you spend in the gym.) I also know how to build yourself up, so that doesn’t happen as often.
The show should be about enjoying the over-the-top costumes, admiring things you can’t afford yet and enjoying the musical acts. It’s not an opportunity for you to body-shame yourself because you don’t look like the women on the runway.
We’ll be live tweeting the show at 10 p.m. ET from @feather_mag (a couple of hours after we live tweet the Pretty Little Liars Christmas special.) and we’re encouraging you all to leave the negative comments and thoughts out of the conversation, so we can all keep moving forward on our self-esteem journey together.
We hope you’ll tweet along with us!
