YouTuber Cassandra Bankson recently revealed that she was born with two vaginas. She discovered the problem when she went to the doctor for kidney pain.
“When we got the papers back, she looked at me and said ‘ah-ha!'” Bankson told Barcroft TV.
Having two vaginas isn’t without its problems. Bankson said she’s been plagued with issues relating to her menstrual cycle, including periods that last for almost a month, experiencing more than one cycle in a month and chronic pain from cramps.
“It’s extremely difficult to deal with,” she says, “especially because you don’t know if your period will last a week or three.”
As her gynecolgist explains (in much fancier language), when the embryo is developing, two tubes usually come together and fuse. If that doesn’t happen, you can get two vaginas, more than one uterus and double cervices. She said a lot of women don’t even know they have two vaginas until they’re pregnant, so it won’t kill Bankson’s chances of reproduction and it also doesn’t increase her risk of any cancers that target the reproductive system.
Bankson says she now wants to continue educating people about living with two vaginas and will continue to focus on her YouTube channel, through which she’s helped a lot of her viewers who suffer from acne issues. (She also revealed in the video that she had to change schools as a kid, after being bullied for her skin issues.)
“I want to continue showing people how to find their own self-confidence and success,” she says.
Uh, could she be more awesome?
