As women, we have always waited around with the expectation that guys are supposed to make the first move. In reality, the poor guys are likely over in the corner shaking in their boots at the thought of your heartbreaking rejection—listen, even the most masculine men get nervous, too.
If we want to call ourselves independent women, we have to just suck it up sometimes and make that first move.
It Can Be Simple
Making the first move doesn’t mean you have to ask the guy out for dinner and a movie right off the bat. Keep it simple and buy him a drink or ask him to dance when you catch his eye at the bar. Don’t worry about robbing his manhood, he’ll appreciate that you’ve taken the first step for him.
If you act unsure about yourself, he’ll notice. Most guys want a girl who is confident and fearless. Don’t be cocky, but show him you’re interested and why you’re worth his time. Guys like it when a girl sometimes takes charge.
Body Language Matters
Nonverbals make up most of your initial communication, so it’s important that you’re not closed off and shy. Pay attention to the vibe you’re giving off because it can lead to a big fat “no” if you’re not careful. Make eye contact, keep your head up, face him and, of course, smile! That’s the key.
Have A Game Plan
Imagine walking up to him just exuding confidence, then when you’ve finally caught his attention, you get tongue tied and lose your words. You need a plan. Don’t plan out a detailed speech, but maybe have a specific date you’re going to invite him on in mind. This will make everything go much more smoothly.
Don’t Dwell On Rejection
Haven’t you denied at least one guy in your life? That’s the risk of being gutsy, ladies. Be ready for some rejection and don’t be too heartbroken when it happens. To be brave enough to approach a guy, you’ve got to be strong enough to handle being denied. It doesn’t mean you’re ugly or not date-worthy. Some guys just can’t handle a woman in charge. So dust yourself off and try again.
